8th August 2016
The Young Creative Awards may seem like a distant memory to some but we’re still busy with all things post-YCA.
YCA 2016 music winners, Super Furniture, have been having a whirlwind of a summer. May saw them perform to an audience of 300 at the Nottingham Playhouse before winning the music category at the Young Creative Awards. June saw the lads win Nusic’s Future Sound of Nottingham, where they got the chance to perform at Rock City; winning meant they got to kick off Splendour Festival on the main stage at Wollaton Park in July.
They released their very first debut single at the end of June, ‘Vultures’, which is available now on Spotify and iTunes. They have had countless interviews from the likes of Notts TV, the Chad, BBC Introducing, LeftLion and Nottingham Post. They have played gigs at Chilli Festival and the Stag and Pheasant in Mansfield and at the weekend played at Riverside Festival.
On Friday 29th July, Super Furniture made use of their Young Creative Awards prize and headed over for a full day in ROFL Audio Recording Studios. ROFL Audio is a world standard professional recording facility based in Nottingham. They have three fully staffed and equipped studios all for different purposes and have worked with a range of artists including Flo Rida, Lil Wayne and BBC Introducing. This was a great opportunity for Super Furniture and could not have happened without the overwhelming generosity of ROFL Audio. We spoke to Herbie, the lead singer of the alternative band, who said:
“We had an amazing time recording our second single at ROFL studios in Nottingham. We owe a massive thank you to the Young Creative Awards, Nottingham Music Hub and the lovely guys at ROFL for making this all possible. We can’t wait for you to hear it!”
We have no doubt that Super Furniture are heading for bigger things. If a band, who has been together less than a year, can take Nottingham by storm in a summer, then we see no stopping them now. Perhaps next year they’ll be playing the likes of Glastonbury Festival. Watch this space.
