A record number of young people in Nottingham have entered this year’s Nottingham Young Creative Awards. Entries closed on Friday 23 March at midnight with in excess of six hundred submissions from 13-24 year-olds across the city.
The awards, which celebrate their tenth birthday in 2018, are open to young people across Nottingham aged between 13-24. There are eleven different categories; Architecture and Design, Animation and Digital Media, Creative Writing, Dance, Fashion and Textiles, Film, Graphic Design, Music, Photography, Theatre and Visual Arts. Entrants are also divided into three age groups; 13-15, 16-18 and 19-24 with winners picked for each category and age group.
Over the next month a group of expert judges from organisations including Nottingham City of Literature, Dance 4, Confetti, Maber Architects, Nonsuch Theatre, Nottingham College and Nottingham Trent University, will gather together to shortlist entries, decide upon winners and put forward their recommendations for the overall Young Creative of the Year award.
Nigel Cooke, Chair of awards organisers One Nottingham, said: “It’s been an amazing year for the Young Creative Awards and we’re delighted that we’ve had so many entries this year. Now I’m just really looking forward to the awards night itself.”
The winners will be announced at an event at Nottingham Playhouse on Wednesday 23 May. The night will feature a series of guest performances as well as the winners announcements. Guests presenting at the awards in the past have included; actress Vicky McClure, singer Indiana and artist Wolfgang Buttress.
Tickets for the awards evening are available upon request.
