YCA Lockdown Monologues

Lockdown Monologues is a brand new participatory project, launched by Young Creatives Nottingham and led by actor Cassie Bradley.

Born and raised in Nottingham and Mansfield, Cassie is a British actress known for her work with Sam Mendes and Marianne Elliott at the National Theatre and her screen appearances on BBC, Channel 5 and ITV, including the role of bad girl Natalie Watkins in Coronation Street.

We want young actors from Nottingham and beyond to film themselves at home performing theatrical monologues and to post them to social media using #YCALockdownMonologues.

You could choose a monologue from a Shakespeare, modern or classical play. It could be comic or dramatic – it’s up to you!

#YCALockdownMonologues should be no longer than 2 minutes and should be submitted before the end of June. We will then be putting together a selection of the very best to share as a #YCALockdownMonologues film.

Lockdown Monologues grew out of my desire to “do something to help” in this current situation. There are so many young people across this city with stories to tell and voices that should be heard.

"Together with YCA we want to make sure that lockdown doesn’t mean ‘locked out’ of opportunity. This is a chance for young people to get creative, to work on monologues they might be preparing for school, college or drama school auditions or just to try something new. It might be the first time they ever record a monologue to camera and who knows what that might spark or where it might take them!"

To launch the project, Cassie herself performed an extract from Northern / Not Northern by James Graham, which was premiered at the Nottstopping Festival.

As part of the project, Cassie will be leading two very special, free webinars sharing advice and tips about how to approach a monologue.
