Rock City Main Stage and Hockley Hustle Festival Slots Up For Grabs For This Year's YCA Music Winners

The Young Creative Awards Nottingham are delighted to unveil two new ‘big stage’ performance opportunities for winners and entrants of the Music category at this year’s awards

We have agreed with DHP Family that one of our winners will be offered a slot on the main stage at Rock City, as part of the next Beat The Streets festival (scheduled to take place on Sunday 28 January 2024). This is a stage that in the past has hosted musical royalty like David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, U2, Ed Sheeran, Nirvana and Guns and Roses.

We have also agreed with Hockley Hustle that the Young Creative Awards will host its own stage at the Hockley Hustle 2023 festival in October, where we anticipate being able to offer between 6-10 performance slots to young artists who have entered our awards.

Entry to the Young Creative Awards is completely free and has ten different creative categories in total, which are: Animation and Digital Media, Creative Writing, Dance, Design and Architecture, Fashion and Textiles, Film, Graphic Design, Music, Photography and Visual Arts.

Entries are accepted from any young people who live, work or study in Nottingham and are aged between 11-24 at the closing date of the competition – this year Monday 24 April. The entries are divided into three age categories (11-15, 16-18 and 19-24) and judged by our panels of industry experts. Nominees and winners will be announced in early June for each age group.

Our Music category is open to artists and groups entering their own original music. To enter we ask them to submit one song or musical composition of no more than 5 minutes in length, with supporting information such as; a description of the piece and what inspired it and a lyric sheet (if appropriate).

DHP Family is the promotions company behind music venues Rock City, Rescue Rooms, The Bodega and Stealth as well as festivals like Dot To Dot and Splendour. They also manage tours for international music artists, which in the past have included Noel Gallagher, Ed Sheeran, Brian Wilson and Belinda Carlisle.

Hockley Hustle is an annual music and arts festival, originally founded in 2006, which takes place once a year across dozens of music venues in the city of Nottingham. It has also spawned several spin-off festivals and events in Nottingham such as Green Hustle and Young Hustlers.

Representatives from both DHP Family and Hockley Hustle will also join the panel of judges for the Music category at this year’s Young Creative Awards. They will be judging entries alongside representatives from the Nottingham Music Service, a local musical educational charity who have been partners on the awards for many years.
